Loved this spot! Ordered some drinks to start and they were really good. They have a wild martini selection too if that's your groove. Service was great, she was really sweet and helpful. We started with the focaccia, solid. What I love the most is they do half sized plates for their pastas. This is perfect if you want to share a couple to try a few. We got the squid ink which was fantastic, I wish I had more right now. And the rigatoni was nice and had a kick! This place is busy! Seems like a neighborhood favorite. Will definitely come back soon!
The ambience of this restaurant is nice - as long as you're closer to the front door (although it can get crowded at times and when it does, it does take away from the atmosphere). Closer to the door, it's more colorful, better lit, and scene-y. Further back, it's darker, subdued, and maybe a little too excluded from the rest of the restaurant - or so it feels. The food leans more Italian than Italian-American, and it's tasty too. Spaghetti tastes homemade, and was cooked al-dente. It was delicious and a bit on the eggy side, which isn't a bad thing. The salmerino dish consisting of fish was even better - perfectly crusty skin, flakey meat, and with the touch of smoky fennel took the flavors to another level that I haven't experienced before with this dish - the fennel was surprisingly the key. The burrata with eggplant caponata was good but it wasn't nearly as good as the corn velouté with shrimp which was quickly devoured. Desserts - espresso crème brûlée and the gelato were both just okay. The gelato came with chunks of olive oil cake which was nice. The crème brûlée was well made and thankfully not too chilled - so I felt they did well in the preparation of this one. But neither wowed us as much as the previous dishes. +corn velouté soup w/ shrimp +salmerino w/ fennel
Very good fresh pasta. Tried the smaller portions of the taglioni neri (squid ink pasta) and gramigna (pork ragu). Both were very flavorful. And I like the option of being able to order smaller portions. Gives you an opportunity to try more dishes. Ambiance and service was great too. Would recommend.
Lovely place with delicious food and great service! We came very early on a Tuesday so it was not super crowded in the restaurant, although the lounge area had a lot more people. We ordered the Salmone crudo, calamari, and the focaccia with stracciatella to start with. The calamari was nicely seasoned (not too salty) and crispy with a pomodoro sauce, but it was definitely a small portion compared to the price. I loved the focaccia - super fluffy with a nice crust on the outside, and it paired well with the stracciatella. My favorite, though, had to be the crudo, which was light and refreshing. I liked how thick they cut the salmon pieces, giving each bite a buttery and smooth texture. For our mains, we tried the cappelletti and gramigna. I appreciate that they offer half size portions of the pasta so you're able to try more things. While the pastas were both good, I found them to be a bit disappointing compared to the appetizers - nothing really stood out to me. I did think that the pasta was cooked well and was well seasoned, so perhaps they were just not really my personal taste. We wrapped up our meal on a high note, though, with the bombolini for dessert - perfectly moist with a nice lemony flavor, and not too sweet. Overall I definitely enjoyed my experience!
Went with a work colleague and everything was great. We started with the meatball appetizer which came with the most delicious bread. We then had the cappelleti - which I have to say was some of the best pasta I've had in the area. I also don't say this lightly. It was cooked perfectly, the sauce was light and delicious. I want to explore more of the menu. Pro tip: you know the deal with $7 martini's BUT the food is the reason you'll be coming back!
Very tasty food but a bit overpriced and tiny plates. I tried the following SALMONE (salmon, salmoriglio, trout roe, caper, chive) It's okay but nothing stood out TONNO (yellowfin tuna, chili, castelvetrano olive, tonnato) It's good! Both the Salmone and Tonno had fresh fish options ,but not the best I've had or anything. MOZZARELLA DI BUFALA (caponata, fennel pollen-chili agrodolce, caper, mint, crostini) It's good! Wished I tasted the nuanced ingredients more... GRAMIGNA (pork sausage, green onion, black pepper, egg yolk) Rich and creamy, but surprisingly not greasy. I think this is a win! They give you option to do small plate or larger plate. I recommend just doing the large plate, and take leftovers home if you really need. Small plate is not worth the money unless you loaded up on Apps/small plates. Tried the desserts: OLIO D'OLIVA orange olive oil cake, blueberry conserva, honey yogurt crema, rosemary MY FAVE! Very rich and heavy on the olive oil, which not everyone likes CUCINA CRÈME BRÛLÉE coffee mascarpone custard, chocolate covered espresso bean, cocoa Delicious but the coffee overpowers the whole dessert . AFFOGATO SUNDAE vanilla & pistachio gelati, espresso, marsala, salted caramel sauce Great, but flavors don't stand out to me Service was okay, nothing outstanding and they were busy. I'm glad the waitstaff said something in the beginning of the dinner, as this set up the expectations. Ambiance is romantic and dark, great for dates. The bar atmosphere is also loud and fun! Overall, good food, but nothing that was outstanding. Service was fine, considering they were quite busy. But for the price and food, nothing stood out to me to draw me back sadly. Quality food however ! And excellent location.
The best happy hour!! So genius to have a martini hour and the best part is that it lasts all day everyday at their lounge. So affordable at $7 per martini and you just order at the bar so service is super quick. The vibes are cool because it's in the lounge area although there isn't that much seating. There were people standing at the bar and it became a bit crowded but that's to be expected on a saturday night. The drinks themselves were great and even though we didn't get any food, it looked great and I'd love to come back and try some.
Went to Cucina Morini without a reservation for an impromptu dinner on a summer Thursday. I love Caruso's Grocery and loved Nicoletta so I had high hopes. Overall the meal was good, with one or two disappointments but I would still come back. Food: -Rapini: Wonderful, broccoli rabe was nicely charred -Meatballs: Really dense and dry. Unfortunately some of the worst meatballs I've ever had. -Paccheri alla Norma: Good, not great. Flavor reminded me a bit of eggplant parm but easier to eat. -Cappelletti (truffle ravioli): Really tasty, nice truffle flavor. Also appreciated that it was a good number of ravioli. -Affogato Sundae: Tasted great, nice balance of sweet from the caramel and ice cream, bitter from the espresso, and nutty from the pistachios. However eating it out of a pint glass is extremely awkward. Service was a mixed bag. We sat at the bar in the accessible seats, which is always awkward because you are lower than the bar. It was also right next to the pass and the kitchen. But we didn't have a reservation so that's on us. There were a few times that we struggled to get the attention of a server but luckily there was a great manager who seemed to have a sixth sense for what we needed.
Very high quality - get the yellowtail crudo. Pastas come in half or full size. Matt Adler began at Osteria Moroni ten years ago as one of the founders, and moved on to open the also excellent Caruso's Grocery and this. Great service, very competitive prices.
Naim was an excellent host for our visit and very knowledgeable for a relatively new employee. Every item we ordered was excellent and we had a perfect wine recommendation from the sommelier. A wonderful experience all around. We will definitely return.
